Vintage Story server commands
What this is about
Vintage Story has built-in commands for running your server: the whitelist, player roles, kicks and bans, time and weather, server settings and more. This page lists every built-in server command, so you can look one up without starting the game.
This list comes from Vintage Story 1.22.7 (captured 7 November 2026). It only covers the game's own commands. Mods can add their own: type /help in the console to see everything your server knows, including mod commands.
How to run a command
- Open your server in the panel and go to the Console tab.
- Click Type a command... at the bottom.
- Type the command with the slash at the start, for example
/list clients, and press Enter.
Always start with a slash. Text without a / is sent as a chat message to the players, not run as a command.
While you type, the console suggests matching commands and shows which words come next. See Command suggestions on the Console page for how to use them.
Need more detail on one command? Type /help followed by its name, for example /help whitelist. The answer appears in the console.
Some commands act on "yourself" or on the block you look at (for example /self, /kill, /emote). They are meant to be typed in the game by a player, so they do little from the console.

The server will remain indefinitely in that rain state until reset with '/weather setprecipa'. |

Advanced and debugging commands
The commands below are tools for mod makers, world editing and troubleshooting. Several of them change or delete parts of your world for good (for example /wgen del, /db prune and the /we world editor). Take a backup first and only use them if you know what they do.

/db
| Subcommand | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/db backup |
[filename] |
Creates a copy of the current save game in the Backups folder |
/db vacuum |
Repack save game to minimize its file size | |
/db backuppartial |
<chunk_x_start> <chunk_z_start> <chunk_x_end> <chunk_z_end> [filename] |
Create a copy of the main data and extract some chunks. Useful for extracting a working savegame with a smaller savegame size for debugging. This will take the data from disk so make sure to save first using /autosave. |
/db prune |
<threshold> <keep/drop> [confirm/dryrun] [version] |
Delete all unchanged or hardly changed chunks, with changes below a specified threshold. Chunks with land claims can be protected. 'Changes' refers to edits by players, counted separately in each 32x32 chunk in the world. The number of edits is the count of blocks of any kind placed or broken by any player in either Survival or Creative modes. Breaking grass or leaves is counted, harvesting berries or collecting sticks is not counted. Only player actions since game version 1.18.0 (April 2023) are counted. Chunks with land claims of any size, even a single block, can be protected using the 'keep' option. The 'keep' option will preserve all trader caravans and the Resonance Archives. Pruned chunks are fully deleted and destroyed and, when next visited, will be regenerated with up-to-date worldgen from the current game version, including new vegetation and ruins. Bodies of water, general terrain shape and climate conditions will be unchanged or almost unchanged. Ore presence in each chunk will be similar as before, may be in slightly different positions. Without the 'confirm' arg, does a dry-run only! If mods or worldconfig have changed since the world was first created, or if the map was first created in game version 1.17 or earlier, results of a prune may be unpredictable or chunk borders may become visible, a backup first is advisable. This command is irreversible, use with care! |
